Lanzarote – The Ideal Holiday Home Location

The era of cheap flights has dramatically accelerated the British love affair with European holiday destinations. Over the last ten years, more and more people have become accustomed to holidaying abroad several times a year, with many buying their very own home in the sun.

This is hardly surprising given how unreliable the British summer can be. And how much easier it is to relax when the weather is consistently hot and sunny. This allied with the huge choice of hotspots where affordable property can be found explains the phenomenon.

And for those who are desperately seeking sunshine, there are few places within Europe that offer such dependable blue skies as the island of Lanzarote. As one of the Canarian archipelago, it is considerably further south than anywhere else in Spain or the Mediterranean.

This means that the temperatures are warm all year round and not just during an extended summer season. The island is now well served with cheap Lanzarote flights, from airlines such as Ryanair flying from pretty much every major UK airport.

Which is great news for anyone thinking of purchasing a holiday home on Lanzarote. There is a huge choice of properties in the three main resorts, as well as a wealth of small villages and towns where an idyllic rural hideaway may be preferred.

The holiday villas in Costa Teguise tend to be concentrated in the very centre of the town or on the road which goes to the golf course. The town is a purpose built tourist resort, with a difference, in that the original design was based on a replica fishing village. It is still characterised by low rise buildings, wide avenues and several beautiful beaches.

At the southern most tip of the island is the newer resort of Playa Blanca. And Playa Blanca villas come in a slightly different format. Much of the town has been developed in more recent years, so a far wider choice of modern Spanish style villas abounds.

Given the abundance of sunny weather, it is no surprise to find that the vast majority of villas come with their own swimming pools. Many are heated with solar power, as this environmentally friendly form of power generation has been widely adopted on the island.

These factors all contribute to Lanzarote’s enduring popularity as a holiday destination, where many visitors form such a favourable impression they come back year after year.
